Thaanthonreeswarar Temple, Kokkadisolai, Batticaloa

Thaanthonreeswarar Temple is believed to have been first built during the time of Chola Empire in the eleventh century, reconstructed and renovated many times . “Thaanthonreeswarar” means a Sivalingam appeared up by itself. It's believed that many miracles happened at this place throughout the history of this Hindu temple.  

Kooadicholai is 15Km southwest of Batticaloa town across the lagoon. The small town where the temple is located can be reached by the Manmunai bridge. The area beyond this bridge is called Paduwankarai. The temple is very famous among the Hindu devotees of the eastern province and one of the five important Siva temples in Sri Lanka.
